چکیده

bioengineered septal occluder devices (7). These devices showed rapid complete neo-endothelialization. The scaffold can be heparin-coated in order to decrease further the thrombogenicity of the implant surface. The basic concept of this evolving device, however, is its biodegradability. Especially in children with an expected implant persistence of some 80 years, the degradation of the implant after ingrowth and concurrent replacement by autologous host tissue might be a concept not only to minimize foreign-body reactions (such as perforations) but also to avoid the potential for yet unknown long-term sequelae.

[Intracardiac echocardiography and percutaneous closure of atrial septal defects in adults].

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Today, the transcatheter treatment of atrial septal defects using an occluding device is a safe and effective therapeutic approach. Recently, intracardiac echocardiography has been developed as an alternative to transesophageal echocardiography for guiding these procedures. We describe our experience with intracardiac echocardiography during the percutaneous closure ...

Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (PLAATO) for preventing cardioembolism: first experience in canine model.

BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation is associated with a high risk for cardioembolic stroke. The left atrial appendage (LAA) is the source of the vast majority of these thromboemboli. A novel implanted device for percutaneous LAA transcatheter occlusion (PLAATO) has been designed to seal the LAA. The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility and safety of transcatheter LAA occlusion in dogs....

Selecting the optimal closure device in patients with atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovaleD

Patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects are common cardiac defects that can be routinely closed with transcatheter devices, rather than more invasive open surgical techniques. There is good evidence supporting both surgical and transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects, but there remains controversy regarding some of the currently applied indications for patent foramen ovale closure...

Platypnea-Orthodeoxia Syndrome after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation

Progressive dyspnea and hypoxaemia in the subacute phase after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) are uncommon and warrant immediate assessment of valve and prosthesis leaflet function to exclude thrombosis, as well as investigation for other causes related to the procedure, such as left ventricular dysfunction, pulmonary embolism, and respiratory sepsis. In this case, we report the...

Transcatheter closure of residual atrial septal defect following implantation of buttoned device.

We report a case in which residual shunting after a buttoned device occlusion of atrial septal defect (ASD) was eliminated by transcatheter retrieval of a portion of the device, followed by implantation of a second device. This method may be helpful for those patients with residual ASDs who decline surgical device retrieval and defect closure.
